It was soon realised that the majority of patients were unable to attend any traditional churches in the town, and the Duchess of Marlborough paid for this temporary chapel to be erected in the space between the Rotunda and Mansion. It was a multi-faith chapel, allowing for Church of England and Catholic services to be held in the same building.
