This is a shot of the ballroom as a ward taken before the Hospital opened. The Hospital took many photos early on as part of their fundraising campaign. The ballroom is named Alexandra ward for Queen Alexandra, but very quickly would be changed to Paget ward in thanks to Lady Paget for her sponsorship of the Hospital. This initial arrangement for beds was abandoned in favour of one where a central partition was introduced to allow for beds on either side the length of the ballroom.
