Christmas at Oldway - 25 December 1917

Abridged from the Paignton Western Guardian 27 December 1917

At the two military hospitals of the town – Oldway and The Larches – Christmas was celebrated with as much quiet jollity as possible. At the former the customary decorations, presents, entertainments, special fare etc., were again in evidence, and at The Larches prizes were offered for the best decorated wards. Dr Bennett carved the three turkeys provided, the tables being splendidly decorated by Gunner Johnson. Carols and a Christmas tree added to the festivities while after tea a whist drive was held. The “Larches Smilers” on Boxing night gave an entertainment at the Public hall, and will repeat it on Saturday for the Prisoners of War Fund.
