This early photo shows Oldway House having been converted to hospital use by the end of September 1914. This shot shows the beautiful central path built by the French garden designers, the Duchenes, a decade or so previously. This, along with the sunken lawns to the left and the right, were removed by the Torbay Country Club to create a flat sports area in the 1930's. The central doors on the South Front here were quickly adopted as the main way to bring in the wounded without having to ascend the grand marble staircase inside.
