The deceased was in the 5th London Rifle Brigade and was 24 years of age, being a London bank clerk before joining the Territorial Force. The Vicar of Paignton (Rev. A.R. Fuller) officiated at the Cemetery Chapel. The cortege was headed by a drum and bugle band of the R.A.M.C., and about 200 of the R.A.M.C., and a large contingent from the 11th Devons, under Capt. C.E.H. Perkins, followed the coffin, which was covered with the Union Jack. The mother, sister and two uncles of the deceased were the principal mourners. Several floral tributes were placed on the coffin. The “Last Post” was sounded at the conclusion of the service.
